Over the years, I have developed stronger interest in Asian brands and designers that find a space of their own in the world of fashion – which more often than not sees the Western world as the mecca of creativity. However, I believe that the tides are slowly changing and more people are learning to appreciate the work of Asian and local designers, and one such brand that I am a fan of is Coupé–Cousu – a Singapore based label founded in 2008 by duo Xie Shangqian and Alex Yeo – that have grown and showcased their work in local and regional fashion weeks.
With a design philosophy that seeks to marry form and functionality, the duo created the Autumn Winter 2013 Collection taking inspirations from classic motifs such as herringbone, hounds-tooth, polka dots ( my favourite!) and casting them on the fabrics where there undergo gradation, scaling and special treatments. The result is a stylish collection that is interesting , yet versatile for the modern man.
