Call it the The Great Gatsby fever or whatever, but it seems that many guys are going back to the retro slick-back dapper look. Most would just use hair gel to create that slick wet look but the problem is that most gel would harden to give to a very hard look - touch it at your own risk!

However, I have discovered another better product, well rediscovery might be a better word because this is the stuff that the gentlemen would be using in those days, the Brilliantine. Also known as pomade, or more commonly hair grease, this scented hair oil seemed as frozen in time as big studio publicity still.

What I am recommending today is the JS Sloane Heavyweight Brilliantine, created by a duo, Joann Kuno and Smutty Smiff, who shared a love of Hollywood’s golden era and the distinguished and dashing leading men of the silver screen. With this dapper gent in mind, they developed their range of bespoke grooming product for men.

The JS Sloane Heavyweight Brilliantine that I use is suitable for medium to thick hair, and perfect for that extra strong hold for all retro styles including, modern hairstyles, pompadours, flattops, slick back forties and fifties. It is water based (unlike some hair wax) and rinses off easily in one wash.
