Singapore sees an increase in ‘for-men-only’ salon

When I was kid, my mum would often bring me to one of those traditional old school barber operated by older Chinese ‘uncles’ or Indian men. I remember that a hair cut used to cost between $3-$5 and they provided services hair-cut and wet shave services - but not that I needed any shaving at the age of 5. As I grew older, the traditional barber slowly got replaced by trendier unisex hair salon that caters to women and younger group who wanted more fashionable hairstyle and colour treatments. The traditional barbershops that remained were stigmatized with the image of ah pek(old man) and uncles. However, just as we thought that traditional barbershop are going down in history, a new trend seems to be brewing in Singapore that….

The world’s oldest barbershop for men , Truefitt and Hill has opened a full service gentlemen’s barbership here in Singapore on Ang Siang Road on a beautiful old colonial shophouse.
